I decided to take 5 of mu crabs outside to roam the grass and the neighboring kids came and held them, one of the kids ran off to show their parent and i lost track of Hermie, My first crab i got back in jan. we lost him in the grass and think he may have buried in. cause we checked the whole yard and didn't see one crab. i'm soooo mad at myself and it's my fault that i lost hermie, for all i know, he's buried to keep warm, but the only time their is humidity is during the day. I was thinking that i'd much rather have hermie die out in the wild than in the tank. but i'm really hoping he'll show up somday. but i'm not sure

Has Anyone lost a hermie outside????? and did they ever show up again???

    Ohhh, sorry to hear ...

I read an amazing story once...can't remember all of it, but something about a crab that was left outside and it went underground and molted. They put a laundry basket, I think, over where he buried. It was like 3 months later and he popped back up! Keep an eye out. You never know!

We used to play a game with our dog where we would give her a scent and say "find it" and she would smell out what we told her to, usually my brother, but sometimes other things. If you don't have a dog maybe you could borrow a dog from your neighbors. I don't really think it matters what kind of dog it is so long they think its fun, then you could at least put a basket over the spot.

Hermie Could be molting and when they molt they can go without food for a long time, plus down in the ground are tons of earthworms and insects and moisture, so i'm hopeing he'll come up soon, and still be alive
