Is this strange? Ocean and I have been together since the summer of 2007, which makes it like a year and a half. Can something be wrong? I've only been gone on vacation for a week or two at a time, and doesn't it take longer than that to molt? Thank you!

What size crab is Ocean? Size matters when it comes to molting.
Small crabs tend to molt often and quickly, so two weeks would be sufficient time for a small to molt. After a molt, your crab will have really hairy legs and very sharp toenails. It will literally feel like a cactus walking up your arm:eek:

The crab will molt when it's ready. Given that the substrate, food, and temperature and humidity are acceptable, you don't need to worry.

Young hermits can molt up to 5 times but if he/she is older, bigger than really small like 2 centimeters then they usually molt every 18 months

Thank you! Ocean is considered wither medium or large. How long does it take for a hermie that size to molt? I think I had Ocean for 17 months so she/he will probably start molting soon?

Since Ocean will probably start molting soon, what should I do to prepare? Should I put Ocean in an ISO right away so I don't have to move him while he/she is molting? Does the humidity and temp have to change for a hermit crab molting?

I leave mine in the main tank because the move to different surroundings may stress him out. Unless he is in danger, mysel personnally I would leave him be and let him do what comes naturaly. :)

Ocean's toenails are really soft, so she's probably overdue for a molt. Actually, I'm not sure if she has any nails at all. I use calci sand. I looked for eco earth in Walmart, but I didn't find any. Any nation wide stores that have it?

you can use forest bedding or playsand. forest bedding i am pretty sure you can buy at walmart or any petstore a brick is $4 and the playsnd you can get at home depot for 4 dollars for a 50 pound bag when you get these you should keep them moist so ocean get dig a cave. you really should not hold off on this even go get it now if you have to. if you dont ocean will surface molt which you definetley dont want. just remember make it 2 times as deep as ocean is i would also put ocean in iso to molt so it will be calm for him/her

Oh sorry for forgetting to update this! Ocean did a surface molt like a month and a half ago! I thought she has passed so I put her in a funeral box. A week later I heard scratching from it and it turns out she molted!!! It was an amazing experience! Now we have eco earth.
