how do i know when it will molt?

    My crab has been digging in the sand. does this mean it will molt soon?

    It could be. Other molting symptoms are cloudy eyes, lethargy, and excessive eating/drinking (especially salt water). Or your hermit crab could just be destressing. If you recently got him/her, this is probably the case. Hermit crabs need time to adjust to their surroundings. A lot of times hermies just dig for fun, too! :)

    If you just got your crab, it's probably just destressing. Look for other molting signs though. Hope this helps!

    I have 6 and only see 3. The other 3 always seem to be underground.
    I would not worry....Also if you can your one needs a friend. They like to be in groups.

    Trista - crabs will not be happy if they are alone. You should have at least two because they live in large groups in the wild. What size tank do you have?
