    Hi, Welcome! :)

If you go to Forum and click on General Care, then click on the Sticky: Gonopores-Male or Female Crab you'll find your answer there.

Take a few minutes (or more) to read the info in the Forum...there is a wealth of information that is both informative and fascinating, and your crabbies will love you for it. :D

OOPS...I put this in your wrong post...I meant to put it in your other one.

    Hi CrabLover910! :) Welcome.
It's very difficult to tell a crabs age. You can't go by size because some crabs grow faster and bigger than others. It's just one of those questions that can't be accurately answered. Sorry...

I don't know if this is true but I read in this book that when a crab died you could count these rings on the base of it's antennae or something rather.

Sorry but what might that mean? Does that mean that you are feeling really good? Or really crazy about hermit crabs? Or both? Or what?

Great! My hermit crabs are nocturnal so I expect just as much out of them in the day as they might think of me while I'm asleep. Those crabs are probably remarking on how boring their pet human is.:)

Haha I never thought of it that way. Yesterday was really exciting because Sebastien ate took 2 sultanas into his house in 1 trip,he had one under his legs and he kicked the other one, then he climbed over pinchie and in to his house then pinchie stole a sultana and coated it in calci sand!!! That was the most they'd done all day!!!

Crabs are not nocturnal, they just tend to be out more at night since in the wild their preditors can't see their shadows from the sun. Plus the heat of the sun is sometimes to hot. I have crabs that are out in the day and some that are out only night. It all depends on the crab. The ones that are out the most in my tank are my outgoing crabs, the others that are shy come out at night. It all depends on the crabs. I also have crabs that like to be under the sand for a few days at a time and not come out for like 2 to 3 days then go back under. It really depends on the crab. Think of it this way, the more crabs you have the more active tank you will have in the day and at night.

Yeah I have 4 crabs and they all come out more when it's sunny and only 1 or 2 of the other crabs who are really extreme and come out at night!

Thanks Chermo. I though I read somewhere that they were nocturnal but I guess not. My crabs have always been out at night and I have never seen one out during the day unless I pick them up and they are coming in the car with me. They tend to be active then in search of a warmer place. I guess mine are just really shy and stuff. Thanks for correcting me.

Cococrisp, I too read they are nocturnal but then I read that they were not on a few different forums, it makes more since for them to not be nocturnal but to just hide in the day and be out more at night. It was not a correction toward what you said it was just what I read on other forums including this one I believe (don't quote me on that as I am not 100% sure).
