I THOUGHT OUR HERMIT WAS DYING
HE IS OUT OF THE SHELL AND ON TOP OF THE ROCKS
    HE STINKS REAL BAD
MY SON FINALLY SAID IT WAS SHEDDING... WHATEVER
SO I GOT ON LINE AND FOUND OUT HE IS MOLTING.
THIS IS GROSS..... SORRY. I HAVE SINCE LEFT HIM ALONE AND COVERED THE CAGE SO IT IS DARK SHOULD I PUT HIS SHELL BACK NEAR HIM OR WILL HE FIND THE SAME ONE OR ANOTHER SHELL TO GET INTO. THIS IS THE ONLY CRAB WE HAVE.

More Info.....since I Posted I Have Read Other Threads.

Have Had Him For 1 1/2 Years Never Molted Did Change Shells.
Is Fairly Large In About A 1 1/2 Inch To 2 Inch Shell ( The Opening Is That Large)
    10gallon Tank
    Rock Bedding
A Water Dish And Food Dish
    And A Few Empty Shells
Give It Tap Water And Have The Whole Time

He Is Laying To Top Of The Rocks And Looks Like Its Giving Birth... But It Just Squeezing Out Of His Shell.
I Have Never Heard Of Or Seen Anything Like This.

    You need to:

Get rid of the rocks, Get rid of the tap water, get rid of any plastic/painted shells.

Check your crab, if it smells like dead fish, then he has probably passed.
