I have a similar problem, except that no stores near me have what I need. Luckily Im getting a new car tomorrow and so on Friday Im off to Hobart to test it out and I'll be going to all the big pets hops then.

At the moment, Im just using an office light.

I posted my way in another one of your threads i think, i think the topic was like "Really dumb" or something like that.

Basicly fill up 3 water bottles with hot water and stick them next to your tank so they are touching the substrate. If you have shallow substrate lie the bottles on their side and if it is high stand them up try to insulate them against the tank with something towels or coconut fiber background like i use.

This works extremely well IF your tank is on a shelving unit though but I have not tried it out in the open. I got my tank to raise ~ 10 degrees with this method and if you use it on the substrate area only no crabs will get burned but be careful because the glass does get hot so try to keep it limited to only the substrate area or just back them off the glass a bit and insulate it so the heat radiates.

hmmm other ideas... not cheap ones that's the cheapest one i've thought of = ( the rest involve buying an UTH. Do you have a floresent light on your tank top? that generates alot of heat in my tank and comes standard with most lids.

OH i know a cheap way! blow hot air into the tank by making a hissing sound like you do when its cold outside to warm up your hands! just stand at the tank top and do that for a few hours!! just kidding !! =P
