Sounds like a good idea...I would just hope that they didn't die of a disease...Can it be harmful to the hermies it they did?...I bet you could also get the live feeder ones and kill then fresh for the hermies...after all, they are feeder goldfish.

Well crabs are scavengers. Think all the dead animals in the wild the crabs come in contact with all just die from natural causes?

The fish I got yesterday from the pet store I go to were free and had died that morning. It's a local mom & pop place I go to.

Do you do anything to prepare the goldfish, or do you just plop them in there whole?

How long do you keep them in there before they get stinky?

I would not recommend doing this. The manager at the local Petco treated me like an idiot. He went off on a tirade about them being possibly diseased..and something about my small child handling them (like I would??)...not feeding wild hermies am I? etc. :mad:The guy was a real jerk! All I did was inquire about some dead feeder goldfish to try out with my hermit crabs...because some other people had had success with it. Needless to say, I put our purchases back on the shelf and told the guy I was leaving if he was "going to be that way". Wonder if someone gave their store a hard time about their crabitat or something...he had a real sore spot!

Try another pet store or a time when he's not there.

I've had them in for 2 days now, the room doesnt stink yet. LOL Another one was partially eaten.
I'd say keep an eye out for mold and Im gonna toss them after 3 days.

vckums...thanks for your encouragement. The girl in the fish dept. was gonna get them for me..she just grinned. She wanted to ask the manager how to or whether or not to charge me for them. Maybe he thought I was trying to pull something over on them. I'll try the mom and pop shop where my son saw the strawberry crabs. I went to Pets Mart after leaving there...where upon I adopted two newbies!
