what foods do your crabs really like?
Salmon, Peanut Butter, Pork Chop, Carrots, Alfalfa, Broccoli, Banana, Calendula Flowers...
I don't know exactly which they like the most...Although I think that the pork chop was the food most strewn across the tank??
Stewn about is definitely a good sign -- means they liked it so much they wanted to save some for later ...
I was hoping that's the case...the general behavior right now is hide/burrow during the day and destroy the tank at night...from what I've read that's pretty normal?!
Messy, but normal...
My crabs just don't seem to be fresh food guys...they left strawberry, banana, cereal, and cucumber alone. Carrots and celery are the only things I've gotten them to even think about.
Carrot/Celery is good...I read somewhere in here that when trying new foods you should offer them at least three times before you give up...and be sure to space the tries a good distance apart...sometimes they just don't register new things as food...
Think about it, if someone put a monkey brain in front of me I guarantee you I would look at them funny (actually I'ld probably smack them for hurting the poor monkey) but for some people that's a perfectly sane food to eat...
keep us posted...

The forum also has food ideas.
Yeah. I've basically given up on banana. I might try again on the strawberry. They didn't eat much of anything on the days I offered the strawberry, so it could just be that they weren't hungry. But no more banana. Not only do they not like it...it's icky to clean out, even after just being in there for one night.
I've had weird luck with banana...the first time I had a stampede, but then the 2nd time nobody touched it. They are picky little boogers sometimes! I'm trying sweet potato tonight...we'll see!
my guys three favorite foods are
and baby food
Baby food...that's what kind of sweet potatoes I tried tonight...they definately like it! Also seemed to like the raisins and the chamomile?! I guess my guys are too picky. I also caught Shaker and Bow chomping on the choya
I tried some lightly boiled collards the other night, and my crabs went nuts for it. I was surprised, as usually veggies aren't high on the list. But I'm thrilled, both because collards are full of calcium and vitamins (too bad I don't like them, lol) and also because it may make them more receptive to other veggies as well.
In general, my crabs' favorites are fish (all types) and dried fruits, especially canteloupe and papaya. They like Julia Crab's food a lot as well.
My crabs like bananas, freeze dried bloodworms, baby carrots, broccoli, apples, and pears.
And for some reason, neither one of them likes raisins.
hmmmmmmmm, let me think, anything that comes in a can, says food meal, and smells like dead fish
My little pickies absolutely refuse to eat fresh food. I've even made them salads (sans the dressing w/ the vegetables more throughly chopped) and still no go.
organic baby food...easy to store and so far they like...
of course they also make a mess of themselves...
I made my guys some homemade cornbread. Nemo hogged it all and didn't want to share. I had to put more in for the other guys. They went nuts over it.
homemade cornbread?! do tell. you have a recipe? egg, cornmeal, ?????
Cornbread keeps well in general, but I bet if refridged it would hold longer, plus you could always freeze some too...hmmm....
Good idea gweebles!! I may try that!!
Hmmm...what's your recipe?
Hmmm, I never really recipe'd it. Pretty much cornmeal, egg, a little water, a dash of organic honey for sweetness, oh and I do use a touch of coconut oil to keep it moist. I don't really measure, I will next time for a more accurate recipe. I just mix about a cup of cornmeal, one egg, and the rest until it is a stiffish batter and bake at 400 until golden. They LOVE it. So does my daughter.
