went and hacked a hunk of maple bark off my tree, it has not been sprayed, we have lived here 26 yrs. I soaked it for over 12 hours in their salt water to kill any little buggers, then rinsed it several times in their water, I shook it several times while rinsing it in a cup, then I air dried it for a few days, cause it is just to hot here to turn on the oven.

this is all my crabs attacking the bark, they have been at it for a few days, I took it out and had to empty out the poo & move it so they would move! I put it on the cave, one crab has found it the others are walking around looking for it, taalk about CRAB ADDICTION!

Looks yummy!!! I never thought about feeding them maple bark, but I have a maple tree in my back yard! Seeing how your little guys love it so much, I'll go get some for them today! Thanks for the great idea!

I always have maple or oak bark or both in the tank.(oak tunnel, and maple to climb) They can climb and munch at the same time. I clean it every couple of months and put it back. Have had it in there for 3yrs now.Very good for them.

I hacked off some more the other day and dried it, I want to whack the pear tree by the church, but we are having a massive heat wave right now.  Maybe when the weather cools off and the leaves turn & I start crunching leaves again for them I will start doing some bark smaking
I still have dried leaves from last fall! they love the pear leaves!

yes they can eat them. The best time is in the fall when they change color. That is when the sugar is directed to the leaves and not the tree.
