Okay so I went in to check the tank this morning and I saw my little guy next to the sponge and then right next to him I saw his BIG pincher and one of his walking legs!!!!

I dont think he could have been moulting though because he didnt dig under the sand. Do they even have to do that?

All of my other crabs are fine.
Im moving him into ISO at the moment.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help this little guy :(
I've only had him since Sunday...

I had a crab do the same thing, once, only a lot worse... She lost both of her pinchers and most of her legs from being attacked in a molt.. I had to put her in an ISO tank and feed and water her by hand every day. She was a very personable crab and liked to play, so I'd take her out on a regular basis after feeding her and try to get her to excersize. She ended up growing gel limbs and getting better.
So maybe your crab will grow some gel limbs... if you notice it has difficulty eating without its big pincher, try either giving it smaller bites or hand feeding it.

    That stinks!

    Do you have an ISO?

If so, it's probably best to place him in there for now, until he molts again.

    I hope he's okay!

I am soooo sorry. It's always a sad day when a hermie you've only had for a short period of time dies. I know how it feels. Once again, I'm sorry, and my prayers are sent to you in hope that God will give you a hand.

    :( I know you're sad, but smile! :)

I'm so sorry! :( It's so hard to lose crabs right after you get them. :( You did your best and gave him a great life, and that's what matters. He's playing in Hermie Heaven now, having a lot of fun.

I'm sorry. It's always the worst when you've only had them a little while. Read the sticky in general care. Maybe you are missing something in your tank. But I bet it's jsut the stress from being at the store etc. I'm sorry.:(

We just bought a new PP last week, a fairly large one, and he has lost both pinchers and 3 legs...how much longer does he have? What did we do wrong?

Your hermie may be under stress. Or maybe is suffering cases of dehydration. I would put him in an isolation box away from the other hermits.

PPS is what my two crabs (paco and Clowny) died from. Try to give him a bath with this stuff I think that will work that Vicki has at her shop(link:Hermit Crab Addiction - MEDICINAL BATH

Post purchase stress is, in and of itself, mostly preventable if you take the time to read up on how to treat new crabs and are willing to work on it over a course of about two months. The reason crabs die from PPS is that they are subjected to a sudden change. It doesn't matter if they are suddenly put into a good environment, the fact that there was a sudden change will cause them to stress out almost to the point of death. See this article for a great guide on how to minimize the impact of PPS on your crabs - PPS (Post Purchase Stress): Minimizing the Impact. - Coenobita Biology - News & Articles : The Crab Street Journal
