    When they molt. . .

Do they always dig themselves completley under?

If it's a normal molt and if they have enough sand to bury completely, then yes. Rarely, will they ever molt without being buried (surface molts).

Destressing crabs tend to semi bury- or the ones that are buried for the day time. Molting crabs should always bury under.....

Both of my molts have buried all the way to the very bottom of the substrate (3 inches) to where I could see them through the bottom of the tank. :)

I agree. But, just to make you crazy, some that are not moulting, especially the ones you know for sure have moulted recently, will also bury all the way down in the substrate.

Sorry to have to tell you this, but they're gonna do what they want to do.
