I had a crab that was under for 6-8. I was worried and checked on the forums how long they should be under. I left the crab alone and this morning i woke up to the grossest smell . My grab was dead. Do I have to clean the whole tank or just the part where it was under.? And why did it die??

Sorry for your loss!!! Moltting is stressful to a crab it most- likely died of to much stress. As for cleaning I'd just spot clean the area.

So sorry. I have lost 4 since I started in April. 2 to PPS (post purchase syndrome) and 2 while molting. All are stress related.

Unfortunately, it's so difficult to diagnose illness with a hermit crab. Just make sure all your tank conditions are optimal, and whatever you do, DON'T blame yourself.

Thanks guys, I did just clean the spot and now the tank doesn't smell any more. I think my crab died possibly form a temp change. I live in FL and it's benn great weather so we had the windows open and I turned the heater off cause it was 79 degres in the house and a couple nights it got cold and I forgot to turn the heater on. Oops :(
