I adopted a hermit crab who was being kept in typical negligent care conditions two days ago. He was in a very small kritter keeper with gravel, pellet food, and no water dishes (just a sponge) or calcium. He is very active and has so far eaten very well, but his exo is extremely pale colored for a purple claw. Is this a sign of ill health? Poor exo? He's just much lighter than my other (healthy) crabs so I'm a bit concerned.
it doesn't sound like your crab is sick. your crab probably is an EE-ecuadorian- crab. they are lighter in color than PP's. Mine are EE's. they have a tanish body w/a purple claw & orange legs. PP's are more red & purple.
If you have an image, that could be very helpfull in determining what the problem is. He could have recently molted, or just hasnt gotten enough carotine in his body from not being able to eat those brightly colored fruits and veggies, like carrots, corn, green beans etc..
