Powell's Books - Hermit Crabs for Dummies (For Dummies) by Kelli A. Wilkins I want that book. lol. Anyone have it? Read it? Seen it in stores? Ebay has it, but I'm not even going to try and bid on it because my sister is the only one with an ebay account and since she doesn't live here I doubt she'll watch it for me.
Well, A comment like that is really situational... Compared to a dog or a small child (JOKING HAHA!) They are low maintenance. You don't have to walk around a 1/2 an acre yard searching for poop with a hermit crab. Nor do you have to go on 3 hour walks or throw a ball to them to keep them in shape. Once a month they really require "heavy maintenance" but besides that you are really dedicating ~5 minutes of time to them (miniumum) for maintenance duties (not play time). Change the water and the food and go poop hunting. So really what you compare "high maintenance to would dictate what low maintenance is... (if that makes any sense) anyhow I ordered it like 20 minutes ago and it will be at my house tomorrow so i'll let you know if it is worth it =P
i have a copy im willing to send to you if you want it. i really have 2 copys 1 i got inthe store and the other from a friend as a gift. but if youd like it PM me.
I was thinking back at what I was told about maintenance .. same thing ... low. Really it's not. I find my dog easier to care for!! Let's go for a walk, and here is your food, water is in the toilet bowl! LOL ... For kids especially, making sure and keeping up temp, humidity, finding different things to feed them, making sure they get all the right nutrients, changing substrate, and the list goes on ..... not cheap either!
lucky for me... my room temp is basicly ideal for a hermie. Its about 72 degs and about 75 % humidity all the time =P So that aspect is really low maintenance for me =) If i lived in antarctica or something though where its super cold i could see it being a lot of work =P
I live in the U.S. but I am 1/4 French Canadian. "Oh, Canada!" And those are only the Inuit Indians (known by common folk as Eskimos which means eaters of raw meat) which live in Canada that live in igloos.
