So last night I am going to bed and i hear a loud ruckus going on in the tank, so I turn on the light and see Ty in her breand new Murex shell all fancy thinking she is queen bee now trying to stuff herself in a coco hut that already has 4 crabs in it, she is climbing and pulling and shoving her way in there and finally, Patrick has enough and chirps at her for a good 10 seconds and pushes her backwards out of the coco hut, it was the funniest thing i have ever seen them do! Ty finally got the hint and went to bed in the completely empty coco hut next door and then was joined by Patrick!!! Guess he wanted to say he was sorry for being a grump! LOL
And the fist time that I have REALLY heard them do it! Has anyone ever owned a guinea pig? The chirping sounded an awful lot like a Guinea pigs "purr" to me. High pitched squeaks almost.

Lol that same thing happened to me, but the hermit crab trying to get into the cocohut kept on trying to get in and after 6 times I didn't want her to get hurt so I put her in an empty one right next to it/

    That's a cute story.

I've heard chirping on many occasions, but I have one crab I can count on to usually perform. I have a jumbo that I don't handle much because his previous owner told me he was pinchy. If I hold him upside down he starts chirping right away. i guess he's just not used to being handled.

Aww how cuuuteee! i don't think i've heard it before. I hear chirps that sound like parretkeets sometimes, but i think that it's just them digging and grating against the side of the tank =/

well seeing it is a sound of stress or anger, it is probably not something you want to wish on your crab lol :p

Some crabs seem to chirp when not stressed or anything. Mostly it is a stress reaction, though, so do check it out.

Nibs has a habit of chirping in the exerciser if one of the larger crabs tries to walk over her, but she stops as soon as they get off...but it always makes me laugh and 'scold' the crabs.

chirp chirp. I must of purchased a really talkative bunch since they chirp at each other quite often who would of thought they could be such loud creatures -_-
