Well she surface molted maybe less than 14 hours in the regular tank. So right now she's in the ISO tank. She has food, water, and her exo-skeleton.

Today was the first time I got to see Aqua after the surface molt. There is still some claws left but other than that she doing pretty good. She so pink the you can see her eyes perfect.

This is my very first molt and I am excited that Aqua(the smallest crab I have) is doing it. Right now there the big pincher left some body parts and the end of the crab so she almost done. Exactly if she was nickel size how long would it take to get her color back?

I don't know. Maybe a few days. Also, like Laughs said, you should fill out the emergency form in the emergency section to find out why there was a surface molt.:D

I don't really think I should do that since she ate all her body part (but a big claw) and she having regular molt just like other crabs.

I think the point was that surface molts aren't supposed to happen. Imagine the crab trying to shed its exo with all other eyes watching, and there's always dangers involved. I bet that's stressful, it would be like someone forcing you to get naked in front of an auditorium.

I would really encourage you to post the emergency form. It might be something as simple as you need more substrate!

Gratz on the molt. I didn't get to see mine. My guy disappeared, then came back up weeks later like nothing happened!

Yea... surface molts aren't supposed to happen. Even though Aqua's was successful, you still don't want that to happen again and risk an unsuccessful molt. I've gone through too many molts to count, and have had three surface molts. I discovered later, after finding this sight, that my sand was too shallow and too dry. Since correcting that issue I haven't had a single surface molt. All of mine have been underground and gone great!

I'm not sure bout that, because a surface molt isn't "normal". its your choice though if one of your hermits decides to surface molt again and something goes wromg.

I don't why she did it though? I have sand in the cage the it 3x larger than Energizer is and perfect places to dig.

Yeah, that's why it's a good idea to do the template sticky in the 'Emergency Care Section' so that some mods or other members can find out if theres a problem:)

I was checking out your pics on your website, Cooldoggy, and it seems like your sand is not deep enough. I know you have smaller crabs but you should probably still add at least three inches more sand.
