For my son's birthday, his grandma's got him 3 crabs. The pet store they got them from had great conditions for their habitat. The substrate was the only thing I would say wasn't up to par. It was only a couple inches deep. But so far the crabs are doing really well. I have them separated by glass from our Crabman (who is still under, molting???? I hope, been 3 weeks now with no sound from him) The 3 new ones are named Tony, Rob and Big. (All named after people in the skateboarding world)
They have been very active and eating a lot. They absolutely love the moss pit I have and they are climbing all over everything. The dig down during the day and night are pretty active. They aren't too afraid of our movements around the tank either. They are very pinchy though. The little they have been handled during the purchasing and bathing process they pinched my son a couple times.

Glad to see you got a few more. Since the store you got them from had better conditions than the last one maybe you will have better luck. Remember to let them chill for a while before you spend allot of time with them.
I'm sure crabman will surface within a month so let him be. Just forget he's there thats what I do. If he doesnt surface by then you will have to wait longer. A large crab takes a couple of months to complete it's molt.

Oh we are patiently waiting on him and I think it will be easier to wait now that we have the new ones to distract us. And we definitely know where to go for our next purchase. We did separate the tank with a 8x10 picture frame just to keep the others from him since he is molting. Thank you everyone for all the great information we have received here, as this site is what we can say made us aware and how to be great crabby parents.
