Ok if he is in a painted shell he could really be stuck, they do horrible things to them to get them out then paint their shell then put them back in. It is so horrible. The paint may not have been dried enough. I am not sure where that thread is and if it is even on this site about how the one person got her crab unstuck from its shell. To post you just click on the topic you want to post in and there is a button toward the top before you see everyone's topics that says post new thread. Put this under emergency so others can help you.

If your crab is in a painted shell he may be stuck otherwise I am guessing he just doesn't want to come out all the way. Put some smelly foods by him and see what he does. Unless the shell he is in is too small for him I am sure he is not stuck.
