The Hermitage Hotel

this is the three level, 80+ gallon terrarium that our 8 crab-babies call home. the lowest level is a beach themed resort that is 18"x18"x12" with 3" deep sand substrate, a large lagoon with salt water, natural coral and clay light house for climbing, cuttlebone and plenty of shells. a boardwalk style ramp leads up to the second level, which is a 16"x18"x12" jungle themed paradise. here they find a fresh water pond, branches, vines, a tiki hut, and plants (plastic aquarium plants and spanish moss) for climbing and hiding; a mixture of eco-earth and calcisand substrate for digging (3-6" deep). The vines lead up to a coconut fiber climbing ramp up to the third level--where the crabs find themselves hanging out on the moon! (this level is the smallest at 14"x16"x12".) with 2-3" deep glow in the dark calcisand substrate, sealed plaster moon craters with water and food, natural stag coral for climbing and a black light illuminating the sand and glow in the dark celestial background... the entire habitat is temperature controlled by a thermostat that turns on and off under tank heaters and heat lamps located on each level. a timer turns on and off the primary light source, a 23" vertical florescent bulb that runs along the sides of the lower two levels. temperature and humidity gauges are located on the lower two levels.
